David Owens brings to his role as the MCC-Blue River Trail Blazers soccer coach many years of experience working with and coaching young adults. At MCC-Blue River in 2010, Coach Owens led the Trail Blazers team to win the NJCAA Region XVI Championship, and Owens was named Region XVI Coach of the Year. Under his direction, the Trail Blazers program has made consecutive NJCAA Region XVI semifinal appearances in both 2008 and 2009. In addition to his duties at MCC-Blue River, Owens currently coaches club soccer for Futura Futbol Club in Kansas City, Mo. With People to People, Sports Ambassadors, Coach Owens was an Athletic Director for the Zico Cup (2009), Vienna Youth Friendship Games (2008), and Holland Youth Friendship Games (2007 & 2008). He has coached athletes through People to People, Sports Ambassadors since 2002, experience which includes working with athletes at the Haarlem Cup in Holland, Kiwi Cup in New Zealand, Brazilian and Zico Cups near Rio de Janeiro, and Vienna Youth Friendship Games in Austria. Owens also coached at Rogers High School in Spokane, Wa. and earned varsity collegiate playing experience at Spokane Commnuity College and Gonzaga University. In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Owens is also the Fitness, Recreation, and Athletic Programs Coordinator for MCC-Blue River, a position which allows a full-time, experienced and knowledgeable coaching presence to be available on campus for all Blue River student athletes on a daily basis. |
