Fees for the evaluative screening and individual sessions are payable in advance as follows:
Please note: screening fee must be paid 24 hours in advance; if not, the screening will need to be rescheduled.
We require a minimum of two sessions weekly for the success of the student.
Payments for scheduled sessions must be made on a biweekly basis. If you desire, you may pay for the entire program in advance to guarantee priority scheduling. In cases of shared custody of the student, we require that only one parent be responsible for payment to MCC-Longview for the child’s Reading Horizons sessions.

When MCC-Longview or Metropolitan Community College District cancels classes, Reading Horizons sessions will also be cancelled. In that case, you will not be charged for that day’s session. If MCC does not cancel and your clinician is on campus, ready for your session, you will be charged if you choose not to attend.
Please be sure to listen for TV or radio announcements for cancelations. If you are unsure, please contact your clinician or the Community Education office at 816.604.2030.
MCC campuses are closed, and there will be no sessions on the following holidays:
Campus may be closed for other events; the Community Education Office will give advance notice to Reading Horizons students.
A parent or guardian must accompany all minor children to each session on campus. You must supervise your child prior to the beginning of each session and pick him or her up immediately after each session. We require you to remain on campus during your child’s tutoring session. While you remain on campus, you may wait in the Reading Center or Library (Learning Resources Building) or in the Campus Center cafeteria. If you choose to leave the Reading Center during your child’s session, please notify the clinician and leave a number where you can be reached.
To achieve optimum results, regular attendance is critical. Although students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions, we recognize that illness or extenuating circumstances may arise. If your child cannot attend a session, please notify your Learning Specialist at least 24 hours in advance.
Please respect our Specialist’s schedule and arrive a few minutes prior to your child’s sessions so that he/she will be prepared to begin at the scheduled time. Tardiness may result in the inability to conduct a scheduled session.
Because our Learning Specialists work on a specific schedule, you will be charged for each session that is canceled less than 24 hours in advance during regular business hours. You must notify your Learning Specialist to cancel or reschedule a session. Excessive absences may negatively affect your child’s progress and jeopardize his/her priority scheduling status in the program.
A parent or guardian may observe a child’s sessions with the permission of the Learning Specialist. Observing your child’s session is beneficial for you in order to reinforce the program at home. Please honor the following guidelines:
We strive to provide our students with an environment that facilitates learning. This requires that students be respectful of other students and their Learning Specialist. Behaviors that are disruptive or harmful will not be tolerated. The following steps will be taken when a student’s behavior is unacceptable:
Post-testing is administered at the end of the scheduled number of sessions. Your child should have a good night’s sleep and a meal or snack prior to testing for best results. Please be on time for scheduled testing, as our testing schedule is very strict. Your Learning Specialist will schedule a 10-minute post-testing conference. At this conference, your Specialist will discuss your child’s progress and inform you of our recommendations based on the test results. You will not be charged for this conference. If additional time is needed, please inform your Learning Specialist so that she can allow for a longer session in her schedule. There will be an additional charge of $10 to $25 for extended conference times.
