The
Environmental Studies program is a transfer program
in partnership with UMKC. Established in 2008, this
transfer agreement program is designed to provide
MCC-Maple Woods students with a solid educational
base for completing an Associates and then Bachelor
degrees in Environmental Studies. The transfer
agreement allows students to fulfill degree
requirements and transfer 73 credits to UMKC.
The combined Associates / Bachelor degree program is
designed to produce college graduates who are
broadly educated in issues of the environment and
meet pressing needs in the workforce and the urban
community. The core of the program provides students
with an innovative multidisciplinary approach to
understanding and problem solving of a broad
spectrum of environmental topics. The Environmental
Studies core required courses are supplemented with
key electives intended to meet the particular
interests and needs of the individual students.
Required courses include fields of study in biology,
chemistry, geology, geography, social sciences & the
humanities.
The Environmental Studies program at MCC-Maple Woods
offers students strong foundation to complete either
a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies or a B.S.
degree in Environmental Science at UMKC. The BS
degree is more scientifically rigorous, while the BA
allows students to examine environmental issues with
more of a social science prospective.
