18th and Vine Jazz Festival

April 20, 21, 22, 2017

Gem Theater

Kansas City's Historic Jazz District at 18th and Vine.

The 18th and Vine Jazz Festival is a partnership between Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley and the American Jazz Museum. The three-day festival is a non-competitive event that provides middle school, high school and college students with an outstanding musical experience as well as an opportunity to gain deeper appreciation for Kansas City's rich jazz heritage.

Student participants will benefit from clinics with outstanding musicians and have the option of attending evening performances that will entertain and inspire.

Students will also have the opportunity to tour the American Jazz Museum, where they will be able to take advantage of the museum's artifacts, videos, recordings, etc.

Penn Valley and The American Jazz Museum are excited to invite college, high school and middle school students to the 2017 18th and Vine Jazz Festival.  Festival dates are April 20, 21, and 22.  We're happy to announce that The Jack Dejohnette Trio will give a clinic and perform on Saturday, April 22 at the Gem Theater.  Other performing groups will include various Blue Room performances and The Penn Valley Jazz Ensemble will play on Friday, April 21.

Tickets to the Saturday night performance are available to festival participants at a significantly reduced price.  $20.  Blue Room tickets are $10.  All student performances are free and open to the public.  Educators are also encouraged to take students to the spectacular Jazz Museum while attending the festival.
