Description

Politics are a part of the fabric of the America. Those who know political science know how to raise public awareness of social issues, such as crime prevention, access to healthcare, protection of the environment and how to influence government action.

Political scientists frequently work as policy analysts for government or in labor, political or professional organizations. They gather and analyze information to help plan and interpret policies. Most political scientists - about 63 percent - work for the federal government.

You may want to specialize in an area of politics. Politicians rely on teams of expert analysts and consultants to fill in the gaps of their election platforms. You may also study the hidden psychological elements of politics to become a powerful advisor.

To cover this fascinating topic, our political science courses include national politics, the Missouri constitution, international relations and constitutional law. We even offer a practicum in public administration. You'll review formal laws and traditions, as well as the informal but powerful ways people influence each other. You may gain a new appreciation of the art of back room lobbying.

Our political science program is built around the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. This degree gives you a solid two-year background in general education courses that can transfer to a four-year institution. It also allows 17 hours of elective courses that let you home in on your specific political science interests.

Transfer Credits

While MCC does not offer a degree in this field, these lower division (freshman/sophomore level) courses move with you to a four year college or university and depending on your chosen major may apply toward your degree or as an elective. Check with your transfer school and your MCC academic advisor for the most accurate and timely transfer information.
