Training for Tomorrow

What it is

The State of Missouri in mid-2010 awarded MCC $2.2 million as part of the Training for Tomorrow workforce development initiative. In partnership with Cass, Platte, and Buchanan counties, MCC is developing new courses and programs in the areas of animal health, healthcare, supply chain integration, and small business operations. The courses and programs will help equip skilled workers for in-demand jobs, and all will be developed and piloted by mid-2012.

What are we doing - courses and programs

The courses and programs include:

Animal Health

  • Veterinarian Front Office and Support Staff (online certificate)
  • Animal Care Assistant (4-8 week certificate)
  • Veterinary Technician Assistant (1 year certificate)
  • Lab Animal Technician (Short-term certificates)

Healthcare

  • Medical Interpreter
  • Health Unit Coordinator
  • Hospice & Palliative Care Provider
  • OSHA for Health Care (8 hr course)
  • Emergency Mgmt for Health Care Facilities (40 hr course)

Supply Chain Integration

  • Certified Logistics Associate / Certified Logistics Technician
  • Introduction to ERP Systems
  • Security Issues in Supply Chain Mgmt
  • GIS for Supply-Chain Risk Mgmt

Small Business Operations

  • 8- to 16-hr workshops in various small business operations, incorporating vital principles from MCC’s “Leadership the Marion Way” program:
    • Marketing and Promoting Your Business
    • Cost/Pricing
    • Understanding Financials
    • Growth
  • Emergency Evacuation & Disaster Preparation (8 hr course)

How it will benefit

These courses will help equip workers for entry-level jobs in high-demand fields. They will also help existing employees upgrade their skills in their current jobs or advance their careers to the next level. In addition, a more highly-skilled workforce will strengthen businesses in Cass, Platte, and Buchanan counties and adjacent areas of Kansas City, and stimulate new economic development in the region.
