Dr. Kathrine Swanson, President, MCC-Longview

Kathrine Swanson, Ed.D., president of the MCC-Longview campus since August 1, 2021, served as the vice chancellor for student success and engagement at Metropolitan Community College from August 2015 through June 2023.

"Dr. Swanson's proven leadership with student success at MCC, combined with her invaluable experience in community engagement and workforce development, will allow her to effectively lead the Longview campus while continuing to oversee the College's student services functions," Chancellor Kimberly Beatty said.

Swanson came to MCC from Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, where she served for 10 years as a member of the senior leadership team, last as vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. She also worked alongside community partners in economic development planning there.

Prior to that, Swanson was associate dean of students at Collin County Community College in McKinney, Texas. During her tenure there, she also held the positions of executive director for community relations - an experience that will serve her well as she strives to create new partnerships in the Lee's Summit area - as well as acting provost and director of recruitment and retention.

In addition to working with the chambers of commerce, economic development councils, and community partners throughout the MCC-Longview service area in Lee’s Summit, South Kansas City, and Cass County, she serves on the Saint Luke’s East Hospital Board and the Lee’s Summit Creates Board.

Swanson holds a bachelor's degree in business management from Northern Michigan University, a master's in adult and higher education from Montana State University, and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of North Texas.
