Engineering Technology Program Student Success: Lainey Withers
Lainey Withers joined the Burns & McDonnell Design Innovation Lab, a semester-long in-house internship in Spring 2022. After landing the internship, Withers is certain that was what got her to the career she has now.
After six years in the grocery industry, she enrolled at MCC and began working toward a certificate in computer-aided drafting and design in MCC's engineering technology program (ETEC).
“The whole program does a great job of being very focused on getting people into a career,” Withers says.
Withers noted that the Burns & McDonnell Design Innovation Lab is a very intense class, “but I came out with a ton of knowledge that even if I wasn’t offered a [job] opportunity from that class, it still would have put me a step ahead of some other folks looking for jobs at the [same] time.”
After a successful internship, Withers was offered a full-time job at Burns & McDonnell. “I was impressed, but not too surprised,” says Marcus Million, MCC’s engineering technology program coordinator.
Withers adds: “Finding something that you feel really good about and works (on a practical level) in your life, I think, is very important. And I definitely think MCC is part of that for a lot of folks in Kansas City.”
