Academic Counseling and Resume Assistance

An EOC counselor/advisor can provide information on academic requirements and assist in developing an educational and career plan. The academic resume is much like a job resume; highlighting skills, activities and accomplishments. However, the academic resume focuses on your academic achievements and extracurricular/community involvement from freshman to senior year of high school. This resume should be included with college and scholarship applications. An EOC counselor can provide assistance with developing and/or editing your academic resume.

High School Equivalency Referral

The first step to furthering education beyond high school is to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent. EOC can provide information on adult education class sites, sample exam questions and testing center locations.

College Planning & Selection

The college planning process begins long before the senior year of high school. Selecting which college/university to attend is a very important decision. Beginning with the right college planning process can make the decision and process less stressful. An EOC counselor can guide you in the college planning process and assist you in selecting a postsecondary institution that will meet your educational goals.

College Admission Application

Once the college(s) has been selected, the next step is to submit admission applications for acceptance into the school(s) of choice. EOC has college catalogs and admission applications available as well as access to computers for online applications. An EOC counselor can assist in locating and completing the necessary applications for the college admissions process.

Financial Aid Application

Paying for college can be a major obstacle. Applying for financial aid begins with filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). An EOC counselor can assist with accurately completing and submitting the FAFSA.

  • Pay close attention to colleges' financial aid priority dates.
  • File the FAFSA as soon after October 1 as possible.
  • Missouri State Funding - Priority consideration is given to those that submit FAFSA by Feb. 3. Applications accepted through April 1

Financial and Economic Counseling

Provides an understanding of the different types of financial aid, college-cost comparison, understanding financial aid award letters from colleges and student loan borrowing basics. Participants may also utilize the FDIC Money Smart program which provides information on bank services, borrowing basics, opening a checking account, budgeting, saving and credit scores.

Scholarship Search Guidance

Many scholarships do not get awarded simply because students do not take the time to look and apply for them. Scholarships may be awarded by the college or an outside organization. They may be based on financial need and/or academic achievement. The main key to securing scholarships is to begin the search early - most deadlines are in March or April. Internet access and scholarship books are available at the EOC office. An EOC counselor can provide information on the scholarship search.

Career Counseling & Assessment

Which is the right fit: an office job, outdoor job, high pace job, or people-oriented job? Through career assessment; vocational interests, skills, and values can be determined. An EOC counselor can assist in researching various careers and finding the one that is the best fit.

Defaulted Student Loan Counseling

Defaulted student loans will not go away! They will continue to accrue interest and collection fees. Wages, social security benefits, and tax refunds may be garnished. Eligibility to receive federal financial aid is forfeited until either the loan is cancelled, consolidated, or a reasonable payment plan is established. An EOC counselor will explain your options regarding the defaulted student loan and assist you in getting out of default.

Presentations and Workshops

EOC counselors and advisors are happy to visit your school, church, agency or community organization to provide information on the financial aid and educational opportunities available. Financial literacy workshops on a variety of topics are also available. Contact the office to schedule a presentation or workshop for your organization.
