Career Assessment Instruments

Individual appointment or workshop registration is required to access these inventories.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII)

The results from this instrument are based on Holland's career types. Students receive a computer generated printout utilizing their responses to a 317 item survey, and learn how their patterns of interests compare with others currently employed and satisfied in selected occupations.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

This is a self report personality assessment based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological types. The MBTI yields scores on four dichotomous dimensions. Combinations of those scores are translated into 16 personality types. The goal of the MBTI is to help individuals discover, understand, and appreciate their natural styles, as people tend to be most satisfied in careers that allow them to express their type preferences.

Vocational Biographies

Vocational Biographies is an online database that gives you access to 1,001 career biographies. Each career biography is a lively four-page story based on the career life of a real person. They track workers from their school experiences through their current jobs and lifestyles and offer advice on finding that first job, and climbing the career ladder.
