Gabriela Flores, Associate Vice Chancellor, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Gabriela (Gaby) Flores, who joined MCC in 2022, has more than 25 years of experience working in health and human services, specifically with refugee and immigrant populations in the Kansas City area. Her area of emphasis has been in language access, diversity and health equity.

As MCC's associate vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion, and chief diversity officer, Flores is charged with creating and implementing an organizational framework focusing on educational DEI, including community engagement. In addition, she founded Flores Advisors LLC, which serves as a DEI-strategy consulting organization.

Flores previously served as director of the Office of Equity and Diversity at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. In addition, she served as director of interpreter services for Truman Medical Centers (now University Health) in Kansas City, a Level I trauma center and safety net hospital. She has served as an adjunct faculty member for Johnson County Community College's Healthcare Interpreting Program for Spanish Interpreters as well as in a similar capacity at MCC.

Flores served as a commissioner for the national Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters from 2012-2018.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and a master's degree in business management, and has completed the American Hospital Association’s Cultural Competency Leadership Fellowship (2006).

Flores is an alumna of the Kansas City Chamber Centurions. She currently serves on the boards of Girls on the Run KC, Gilda’s Club KC, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, Wyandotte Health Foundation and KCUR Community Advisory Board.
