CHEM 101 - Survey of Chemistry - 5.00 credits

This course is a survey of the principles, role, and significance of chemistry in the modern world. (MOTR CHEM 100L)

CHEM 105 - Introductory Chemistry for Health Sciences - 5.00 credits

Prerequisite: MATH 31 with a grade of S or higher, or appropriate placement score. This course covers the principles of general, organic, and biological chemistry for health science students. (MOTR CHEM 100LHP)

CHEM 107 - Preparatory General Chemistry - 5.00 credits

Prerequisite: MATH 95 with a grade of C or higher, or appropriate placement test score. This course is an introduction to the elementary principles of chemistry with emphasis on chemical calculations. (MOTR CHEM 100L)

CHEM 111 - General College Chemistry I - 5.00 credits

Prerequisites: MATH 120 with a grade of C or higher, or appropriate placement score, AND CHEM 107 with a grade of C or higher, or high school chemistry with a grade of C or higher; OR CHEM 105 with a grade of C or higher AND MATH 120 with a grade of C or higher, or appropriate placement score. This course is an introduction to the qualitative and quantitative understanding of atoms and molecules, including their reactions and interactions. (MOTR CHEM 150L)

CHEM 112 - General College Chemistry II - 5.00 credits

Prerequisite: CHEM 111 with a grade of "C" or higher. This course examines chemical equilibrium, kinetics, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and reactions of elements and compounds in terms of bonding and energy relationships. Additionally, this course includes a brief introduction to the chemistry of organic compounds.

CHEM 198B - Special Topics - 2.00 credits

A study of a topic of current chemical interest.

CHEM 221 - Organic Chemistry I - 5.00 credits

Prerequisite: CHEM 112 with a grade of "C" or higher. In this course, students will learn the nomenclature, reactions, stereochemistry, and physical properties of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and alkyl halides. Additionally, an exploration of the mechanisms and kinetics of organic reactions, introduction to the chemical literature, and infrared, NMR, and mass spectroscopy will be covered.

CHEM 222 - Organic Chemistry II - 5.00 credits

Prerequisite: CHEM 221 with a grade of "C" or higher. This course includes the nomenclature, reactions, stereochemistry, physical properties, and spectroscopy of aromatic compounds, alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, amines, carboxylic acids, and their derivatives. Additionally, the course explores the mechanisms and kinetics of organic reactions, and an introduction to biochemical compounds.
