MCC’s Fall 2022 semester and 108th academic year get underway on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

A heads-up that on Monday, Aug. 22, the campuses will be closed from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. for employee meetings, but campus offices will open at 1 and remain open until 7 Monday evening. Student services offices will also be open Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and MCC’s Advanced Technical Skills Institute at 2944 Troost Ave. will host an open house and enrollment event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

What do the Campus Life & Leadership offices have lined up for students in the first weeks of the new semester? Here’s a sampler:

MCC-PENN VALLEY is planning Welcome Block Parties on both Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 23-24 (11 a.m.-2 p.m., Campus Center zero level), with a DJ, snacks and lawn games. But the partying doesn’t stop there. At a Paw Print Party on Thursday, Aug. 25 (11-1, outside Campus Center near the café), students can make their mark by pressing paint-covered hands onto a Wolf Pack banner. And a Wolf Pack Mix ‘n’ Mingle is set for Friday, Aug. 26 (11-1, Campus Center 200).

MCC-LONGVIEW is breaking out the snow cone machine for its Snow Glad to See You event on Wednesday, Aug. 24 (10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., outside Campus Center). On Thursday, Aug. 25, LV will host a free outdoor screening of “Free Guy” starring Ryan Reynolds (7:30 p.m., Education Center southeast lawn). And involvement/resource fairs will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 6 (10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., main sidewalks).

MCC-MAPLE WOODS is planning a Welcome Back Bash for Thursday, Aug. 25 (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., outside Student Center), that will include a food truck, music and games. Also on the calendar: the Wolf Pack Wellness involvement fair (11-1 Tuesday, Aug. 30, outside Student Center) and Pop into Campus Life & Leadership (10-noon Wednesday, Aug. 31, Student Center 130).

MCC-BLUE RIVER events include a free pancake breakfast sponsored by the Student Government Association (9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, Campus Center patio), ice cream and giveaways at the Campus Life Spotlight event (11-1 Wednesday, Aug. 31, between Education and Campus Centers), and a Campus Resource Fair (11-1 Thursday, Sept. 1, Campus Center lobby).

The MCC Wolf will make appearances at each campus during the first two weeks of classes.

The campuses are also staffing welcome/information tables the first week of classes, and that includes the MCC-Online campus: A virtual hub on Zoom will help MCC-Online students with student services, navigation and other issues 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 23-24.
