DONNA BRAZILE: A PLAYER IN THE POLITICAL BIG LEAGUES

Brazile, a native of New Orleans, got interested in politics at the age of 9, working to elect a city council candidate who’d promised to build a playground in her neighborhood. The candidate won, the playground got built and a lifelong passion for political progress and responsible governance was ignited.

Brazile has worked on presidential campaigns since 1976. In 2000, she became the first African American woman to serve as manager of a major-party presidential campaign (Al Gore’s). She would later twice serve as interim chair of the Democratic National Committee.

She is author of the memoir “Cooking With Grease: Stirring the Pot in American Politics” (2004), and “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House” (2017). She co-authored “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics” (2018). She previously wrote a syndicated column for Universal Uclick (based in Kansas City). Brazile made cameos as herself on CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Netflix’s “House of Cards.”

She is the founder and director of Brazile & Associates, a general consulting, grassroots advocacy and training firm based in Washington, D.C.

The Chancellor’s Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Luncheon is a Metropolitan Community College Foundation benefit held each winter in honor of Dr. King’s legacy. The thought-provoking program features a national speaker and focuses on current events through the lens of MLK’s teachings.
