Results of purple X scarlet cross. The scarlet mutation prevents formation of brown pigment, and the chromatography solvent does not pick up brown pigment so that the eye color of purple X scarlet double homozygotes should compare to chromatograms of purple.

As in Figure 1, eyes of double homozygous mutants, this time of purple X vermilion, are compared to purple chromatograms.  Vermilion and scarlet completely block brown pigment production.
