Program highlights

Course offerings

We offer nearly 40 courses and hundreds of classes for everyone - from beginners to music majors. Courses offered include, but are not limited to Music Appreciation, Evolutions of Jazz, Music of the World's Cultures and Music Theory.

Ensemble opportunities

Ensemble opportunities are available on campus or in partnership with local arts organizations. These ensembles include choral ensembles, orchestras, concert bands and jazz bands. Ensemble membership requires the consent of the instructor.

Private Instruction

Private Instruction offers a weekly one-on-one lesson between the student and the teacher. Everyone is welcome, from beginner to experienced musicians. Your instructor will work with you at your level. Not all campuses offer private instruction in the same areas. Check with the campus to see what is offered. If you would like to take Private Instruction, you need to enroll in either MUSI 130-Private Instruction I (one-credit hour) or MUSI 131-Private Instruction I (two-credit hours).

  • A one-credit hour lesson is a 30-minute lesson once a week.
  • A two-credit hour lesson is a 60-minute lesson once a week.

Transfer made simple

Careers
Whatever your transfer destination, we'll work to make sure your credits move easily. That's why we're experts at it. We've worked out specific transfer agreements with many four-year colleges and universities.

Our music program is built around the Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. This degree gives you a solid two-year background in general education courses that can transfer to a four-year institution. It also allows additional hours of elective courses that let you home in on your specific musical interests.

Check with your transfer school and your MCC academic advisor for the most accurate and timely transfer information.
