MCC defines Institutional Effectiveness (IE) as follows:
A structured approach supporting the ongoing, systematic and integrated institution-wide research-based yearly planning and evaluation of operational processes.
The MCC Reimagined Strategic Plan 2022 - 2031 will utilize the Balanced Scorecard strategic plan framework. This ensures all key stakeholder perspectives are being considered.
Those perspectives are:
- Students, Alumni and Community,
- Organization,
- Resource Management, and
- Employees.
The philosophical provenance of IE is continuous improvement, which the College achieves through annual Institutional Effectiveness Plans (IEPs) conducted from June - May.
Every June, over sixty leaders, or planning units, across the College identify four operational goals that they intend to impact over the course of the next twelve months.
Three of the operational goals support the planning unit's overarching campus or service area plan, which is directly tied to MCC's strategic plan. The fourth operational goal is considered an MCC global goal shared by every planning unit across the College.
Global goals allow the College to target specific strategic priorities in support of advancing toward the College's vision: MCC will be the Kansas City region's college of choice where all are encouraged to learn, discover and engage.
Every operational goal identified in an IEP has corresponding tactics and a performance measure and target to allow planning units to assess their progress throughout the course of the cycle. In May, planning units "close the loop" and analyze their results. These results are published in an annual institutional effectiveness report (PDF) and are used to:
- Identify areas in need of improvement
- Report on accomplishments
- Identify developing trends based on data
- Develop strategies for continuous improvement
- Inform early budget discussions surrounding the upcoming fiscal year.
